Tracy Garcia, mother of two boys and owner of Petite Suites has developed a beautiful line of decorative paintings and murals for children. I first learned of her when she was featured on the San Antonio Living show. Always intrigued when people, especially moms, follow their creative dreams, I just had to contact her.

Have you always been an artist? Or was this a newly discovered talent?
I have always been a creative person. My mother was a creative person, she was very good at decorating. I can remember growing up helping her wallpaper, paint etc.

Who or what are your inspirations?
My family is my inspiration! My husband is a Creative Director. He knew at a very early age he wanted this occupation and I have always admired his ambition. My boys have inspired me to set a good example for them, I want them to follow their dreams as their father and mother have done.

Do you have any formal education or training that applies to what you do now?
My degree is in Communication Design so I did take several fine art classes.

Have you realized your dream for the business? Where do see yourself in 5 years?
My business if fairly new and so far it is everything I could have ever dreamed of. In 5 years I hope to partner with an Interior Design Firm and focus on murals.

What is the most rewarding part of what you’ve created?
I love that I am able to contribute financially to our household. I also truly love what I do, I don’t see it as work, it is very relaxing for me to paint. It is very rewarding to see the smiles on my clients’ faces once my service is complete!

What is the most challenging aspect?
The most challenging aspect of owning my own business is prioritizing. My family comes first and since my husband travels so much, there are many times I have to put my business on hold for my children.

Do you have any words of advice for anyone out there who might be pursuing their creative goals?
First of all, find your passion. What do you really want to do? And go for it!! I knew I loved painting therefore I started by painting about 5 samples and got feedback from several boutiques, friends, family, etc. So my advice would be to put your creative ideas together, meet with your target audience, and see how well it is received.
